Fake ‘Waterproof iPhone’ ad tricks users into iOS7 Update and Destroy their smartphones

Yesterday I updated you with NYPD’s activity where it was found running a campaign, asking users to upgrade their iPhone and iPads to newly released iOS7.

Now An advert has gone viral, asking Apple users to update their iPhones to newly released iOS 7 in order to make their devices fully waterproof but according to reports the advert is fake and tricking users into breaking their phones.

The advert is spreading all over the social networking websites that looks pretty catchy and close to Apple’s kind of marketing.

Here is how the advert misleads Apple users:

”Update to iOS 7 and become waterproof” claims the ad (see below) explaining that “In an emergency, a smart-switch will shut off the phone’s power supply and corresponding components to prevent any damage to your iPhone’s delicate circuitry.”

Those falling for the trick are updating their devices and ending up with broken gadgets. Some are abusing the unknown for tricking them into an update.

Here is a screenshot of what people are saying on Twitter over the issue:

Apple claims that after the release of its new software update, more then 200 million users have already upgraded to iOS 7. However, as of now it does not say a word over the fake advert.

Call it a conspiracy theory or misuse of technology, there is something fishy about the new iOS 7 software update as just a couple of days ago NYPD was found encouraging people to upgrade their iPhone and iPads to iOS 7.
