Social media giants Facebook and Instagram suffered a brief service outage in Europe, South America and some parts of the United States. Both Facebook and Instagram went down at the same time on Wednesday 1:02 PM (ET) leaving users baffled ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
According to Facebook outage map powered by DownDetector, a service that keeps track of online platforms facing connectivity issues, the outage also affected users in India and Pakistan. Those who were trying to visit Facebook could see “Sorry something went wrong. We’re working on getting this fixed as soon as we can” message.

Like Facebook, Instagram also went offline on Wednesday 1:02 PM (ET) and stayed off for about 10 minutes. Those using the service on app were blocked from uploading or browsing while those visiting the service through its website could see “5xx Server Error,” a 500 Internal Server Error is a very general HTTP status code that means something has gone wrong on the website’s server, but the server could not be more specific on what the exact problem was.

It is unclear what happened to Facebook and Instagram; at the time of publishing this article, both services were up and running.
Remember, the outage came days after Comcast Internet service suffered disruption in which millions of Americans were affected, and it is still unclear why Comcast’s service was down.
