As surprising as it may sound, Facebook is up but Twitter is down.
The online news and social networking site Twitter is down right now after suffering a massive outage. This comes as a surprise since Twitter has a proven track record of maintaining its service even when social media giants like Facebook and Instagram suffer service disruption.
The outage seems to have begun at around 7:45 pm UK time after a message appeared on Twitter stating that:
“Something is technically wrong. Thanks for noticing—we’re going to fix it up and have things back to normal soon.”
According to Twitter’s outage map displayed on DownDetecter, the scale of this outage can be seen affecting users in the Japan, United States and Europe including Italy, Spain, Germany France, Norway, and the United Kingdom. Furthermore, Twitter is also down in some cities of Canada, Brazil, India, and Pakistan.

It is worth mentioning that Twitter’s website and app both are suffering service interruption blocking users from sending new tweets, loading old/new tweets, uploading files and access media on the platform. However, some users can still tweet which indicates that the outage is not worldwide.
This is what Twitter’s website and the app currently look like:
There has been no word from the company yet and one can only hope that Twitter is down because of some technical glitch rather than a malicious attack such as a distributed denial-of-service attack (DDoS attack) in which the incoming traffic flooding the victim originates from many different sources. This effectively makes it impossible to stop the attack simply by blocking a single source.
