Lenovo IdeaPad Y580 [Review, Specification, Price & Performance]

The Lenovo IdeaPad Y580 is an excellent laptop that completely replaces your desktop PC. With its large screen, a full-sized keyboard and a built in Blu-ray drive- this is a ‘portable monster machine’! It even has some great multimedia and gaming capabilities, where it offers a genuine Windows 7 premium and high-end stuff in a value package.

This ogre, as some suggest, is a step ahead of the revolutionary Ultrabooks. The Lenovo IdeaPad Y580 is measured 15.2 inches by 10 inches in size. Also, its thickness range is from 0.9-1.4 inches. However, there has been an issue of mobility with this laptop due to its weight of 6.07 pounds, which is almost twice as heavy as an Ultrabook. It has a display size of 15.6in, and has a maximum resolution of 1920×1080 which is a sensation for gamers out there. Together with this, playing videos is a stunning experience on this laptop which offers 1080p crunchy playback and crisp image quality, supported by an internal Blu-ray drive. It even has those breathtaking JBL speakers built right inside them, providing a crystal-clear, distortion-free (with gusto) sound!

People out there usually experience a good performance laptop for either entertainment or work. But the Lenovo IdeaPad Y580 has nailed it for productivity too. With its sufficiently large keyboard, having a numeric pad on it as well, it can be considered a good product for workers. Moreover, it has round-bottomed tiled keys to enhance the experience. It even has a comfortable palm rest, together with a graceful touchpad which features effortless pinch-zooming and two-finger scrolling.

Coming to the ports, critics have found plenty of important ports available inside this mammoth machine. On the front, there is a 6-in-1 card reader (MS, MMC, MSPro, SDHC, SD, xD), while on the right, features include USB 2.0 & 3.0 ports, a Blu-ray drive (as mentioned earlier), microphone & headphone jacks, a VGA port, an Ethernet port and an HDMI output as well! Equipped with the Intel Wireless Display (WiDi) technology, one can connect his/her laptop with any HDMI display using a particular adapter.

The Lenovo IdeaPad Y580 is well-equipped, indeed! It contains 1TB of hard-disk drive running at 5,400rpm, with a 32GB of SSD. It even has support for Intel Core-i7 and RAM exceeding 8GB, with a 2GB of high-end graphics chipset compatibility. After many tests, we witnessed exceptional performance in gaming with those specifications, but the cons we witnessed were a ‘so-so’ battery life and a question on mobility. Other than that, it has proved itself as an absolute ripper in the market.
