Sony’s PlayStation Network (PSN) Goes Down

Sony’s PlayStation network (PSN) goes down and users are angry again — It is unclear if this was a DDoS attack or a technical error.

Some Sony’s PlayStation network services including Account Management, Gaming And Social, PlayStation™Now and PlayStation™Vue are down right now and what’s irritating is that the company has not given any time frame when the service will be back online.

It started about an hour ago when PSN users took their questions and anger on social media about the service being offline, however, the gaming giant says they are investigating the issue.

This service outage is also causing login and booting issues for gamers or those who are trying to use video services likePlayStation and Netflix.

It is still unclear if PSN is under a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack or the service is down due to a technical error. At the moment none of the DDosing group have taking responsibility of targeting PSN, unlike last week when Poodle Corp took down Electronic Art’s server and claimed its responsibility.

This is not the first time when the PlayStation Network has gone offline, in fact, the company has a history of outages. On 5th January, the network faced DDoS attacks from Phantom Squad and went offline for hours. In 2011, PlayStation Network faced a security breach which forced the network to stay offline for 23 days.

What is a DDoS attack?

A Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack is an attempt to make an online service unavailable by overwhelming it with traffic from multiple sources.

Stay tuned, we are keeping an eye on possible suspects and in case if it’s a DDoS attack and if someone comes out as a culprit we will update you.

Update:

There has been no word from PSN’s support handle on twitter about service interruption, however, good news is that all affected services are back online.
